The Haryana government has appointed senior IPS officer Sibash Kabiraj as the new Police Commissioner of Gurugram, one of the state’s most high-profile and rapidly expanding urban districts.

Kabiraj, a 1999-batch Haryana cadre IPS officer, earlier served as the Commissioner of Police in Panchkula. With the latest transfer order, he now takes charge of policing in Gurugram, a city that continues to witness rapid population growth, rising traffic pressure and increasing cybercrime challenges.

Officials in the police department described the transfer as part of a broader administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening law enforcement in key urban centres. Gurugram holds strategic importance because of its large corporate presence, dense residential sectors and proximity to the national capital.

Police personnel in Gurugram said the new commissioner may focus strongly on traffic management, women’s safety and cybercrime control. Residents in several housing societies have recently raised concerns over rising online fraud cases, late-night security and congestion on major roads.

Meanwhile, officers in Panchkula acknowledged Kabiraj’s tenure for maintaining coordination during major public events and strengthening field policing. Several officers also described him as an administrator known for direct communication and quick operational reviews.

On the ground, Gurugram residents reacted with cautious optimism after the appointment. Shopkeepers and commuters near MG Road and Cyber City said they expect stricter traffic enforcement and faster police response in crowded commercial areas.

The commissioner’s role in Gurugram remains particularly significant because the city regularly hosts international businesses, corporate offices and high-profile events. Therefore, policing demands often extend beyond routine law-and-order management.

Over the years, Haryana Police has increasingly focused on technology-driven surveillance, emergency response systems and cyber monitoring in Gurugram. Officials expect the new leadership to continue those efforts while improving coordination between traffic units, local police stations and crime branches.

Kabiraj now steps into the role at a time when Gurugram faces growing pressure from urban expansion and evolving security challenges.
