Noida unrest escalates: Workers torch vehicles, DND flyway chokes under massive gridlock
Noida sees a sudden surge in tension on Monday. A labour protest turns aggressive as workers take to the streets in large numbers. What begins as a wage dispute quickly shifts into clashes, arson, and widespread disruption.
First, groups of factory workers gather across industrial belts. They raise slogans and block key roads. Soon after, the protest spreads rapidly through Phase 2 areas, especially Sectors 1 and 84. At the same time, pockets in Sectors 59 and 60 report violence. Some protesters target vehicles, smash windows, and set motorcycles on fire. These incidents trigger panic in nearby areas.
Next, police move in to control the situation. Teams from the Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force reach the ground. Officers try to disperse crowds and prevent further damage. In a few flashpoints, they use mild force to push back protesters. Meanwhile, officials also begin talks with worker groups to calm tempers.
On the ground, factory operations take a hit. Several units in Sector 59 shut down as workers leave their shifts and join the protest. Industrial activity slows down across clusters. Managers and staff remain cautious as uncertainty grows.
Then, traffic takes a severe blow. The DND Flyway witnesses long queues during peak hours. Vehicles crawl for kilometres as protestors block major stretches. Commuters from both Delhi and Noida face long delays. Office-goers remain stuck for hours with little movement.
Soon after, the situation worsens near the Chilla Border. Protesters block the Noida Link Road completely. This route acts as a key entry point into Noida. As a result, traffic flow from Delhi slows down drastically. Police from both sides deploy in large numbers and attempt diversions, but heavy traffic volume adds to the chaos.
Meanwhile, authorities step up efforts to restore order. The administration calls an urgent meeting at the Noida Authority. Officials review key demands raised by workers. These include higher wages, double pay for overtime, timely bonuses, weekly leave, and better workplace safety. The discussion aims to find a quick resolution and prevent further escalation.
At the same time, District Magistrate Medha Rupam activates support systems. She releases helpline numbers for workers and sets up a dedicated control room. The administration assures quick response to complaints and promises to address grievances.
In the background, the protest builds over days. Workers push for better pay and working conditions. Authorities earlier signal willingness to discuss demands, but the delay fuels frustration. This frustration spills onto the streets and triggers unrest.
For now, security tightens across industrial zones under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate. Senior officials monitor developments closely. Police continue patrolling sensitive areas to prevent fresh incidents.
As the situation evolves, Noida remains on edge. The next steps from both workers and authorities will decide whether calm returns quickly or tensions continue to rise.
