Bishnupur – Fresh violence grips Manipur’s valley belt. A suspected rocket or mortar shell hits a home in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, Moirang. The blast kills two children and leaves their mother critically injured. The strike lands near the fragile hill-valley boundary, where tensions have simmered for months.

According to initial inputs, the projectile comes from nearby hill positions. It strikes the house of a Border Security Force personnel posted outside the state. At that moment, his wife and two children remain inside. The explosion rips through the structure and triggers panic across the village.

Residents rush the injured to a hospital in Imphal. However, both children—a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old infant—succumb during treatment. Doctors continue to treat the mother for severe splinter injuries. Meanwhile, neighbours describe a loud blast followed by chaos and fear.

On the ground, anxiety spreads fast. Villagers step out in groups and scan the hills. Many families avoid open spaces and keep children indoors. Shopkeepers down shutters early. Local transport slows as fear grips daily life.

Tronglaobi sits close to the foothills of Churachandpur district. The area has seen repeated tension due to its location. Locals say armed groups often use higher ground to target valley settlements. They claim similar projectiles have landed in the past, though rarely with such deadly impact.

Soon after the incident, anger spills onto the streets. Protesters block roads and target passing vehicles. Some groups set fire to two oil tankers and a truck moving through Bishnupur district. The vehicles reportedly head towards hill areas, which further fuels suspicion and outrage.

A crowd gathers outside the Moirang Police Station. Protesters demand immediate action and stronger protection. Police step up deployment to control the situation.

Security forces tighten vigil across the region. They launch search operations in nearby hills and increase surveillance. Officials place sensitive pockets on high alert to prevent further escalation.

Local MLA Thongam Shanti condemns the attack. He urges strict action against those responsible. At the same time, authorities appeal for calm and restraint.

Manipur has faced prolonged ethnic friction along the hill-valley divide. Clashes and sporadic attacks have disrupted normal life for months. Each new incident deepens mistrust between communities and strains law enforcement.

As a precaution, several schools in valley districts remain closed today. Parents keep children at home amid safety concerns.

For now, security agencies race to trace the source of the attack. However, on the ground, fear and anger continue to shape the mood. The latest strike once again highlights how fragile peace remains in the region.
