Don 3 crisis deepens as Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar face industry fallout

What started as one of Bollywood’s biggest franchise revivals has now turned into a major industry dispute involving creative clashes, legal tension, and production uncertainty. The planned third installment of the Don franchise, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role and directed by Farhan Akhtar, now appears stuck with no clear future.

Back in 2023, excitement around Don 3 reached massive levels after makers officially introduced Ranveer Singh as the new face of the iconic action series. The announcement instantly grabbed attention because the franchise carries a huge legacy linked to Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Fans reacted strongly online. Some welcomed the fresh casting choice, while others remained emotionally attached to Shah Rukh Khan’s version of Don. Still, the teaser created strong momentum and signalled a bold reboot for younger audiences.

However, the project soon lost steam.

Months passed without any major production updates. The silence triggered speculation across Bollywood circles. Questions began rising over the film’s script, shooting plans, and internal coordination between the actor and the production house, Excel Entertainment.

Soon after, reports about creative disagreements started surfacing. According to industry insiders, Ranveer Singh reportedly grew frustrated over repeated delays and uncertainty around the screenplay. Sources also suggested that the actor wanted a darker and more intense interpretation of Don with sharper action sequences and a grittier tone.

Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar allegedly preferred to continue with the stylish world and storytelling pattern established in the earlier Don films. The difference in creative vision reportedly widened over time.

The situation became more complicated after reports claimed the makers quietly explored other casting possibilities while Ranveer still remained attached to the film. Industry observers believe this development further strained the relationship between both sides.

Eventually, news about Ranveer’s exit from the project started circulating heavily in entertainment circles.

What looked like a normal creative disagreement then turned into a larger professional conflict. Trade reports later claimed that Excel Entertainment sought compensation worth nearly ₹40 crore to ₹45 crore over financial losses connected to pre-production work.

The matter reportedly reached the Producers Guild of India before discussions shifted to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, commonly known as FWICE.

FWICE advisor Ashoke Pandit later stated that the production team had already invested heavily in planning and overseas preparations. According to him, crews completed location visits, hotel arrangements, and early scheduling involving hundreds of workers.

Pandit also claimed Ranveer had signed a multi-film agreement and participated actively in script discussions and promotional shoots linked to Don 3.

The controversy escalated further after FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh. The body alleged that the actor did not respond to repeated communication attempts regarding the dispute. The move created fresh discussion inside film circles because such actions can impact future collaborations across projects and advertisements.

Ranveer Singh, however, avoided direct public confrontation. His team later released a statement saying the actor chose silence to maintain professionalism and mutual respect. The statement also stressed that he continued to hold goodwill toward everyone associated with the Don franchise.

Interestingly, Farhan Akhtar earlier hinted at uncertainty around the film during a media interaction when he remarked that nothing remains certain until cameras finally start rolling.

For now, Don 3 remains trapped between unresolved negotiations and public speculation. On the ground, many Bollywood fans who once celebrated the franchise reboot now wait without clarity on whether the film will move ahead or collapse entirely.
