French Prez Macron names Jean Castex the new prime minister
New Delhi, July 4 (HS) France President Emmanuel Macron has named Jean Castex as the country’s new Prime Minister. The relatively low profile Castex replaces Edouard Philippe, who resigned earlier on Friday. In France, the President chooses the Prime Minister, who later constitutes his cabinet and government. Philip was Prime Minister for the last three years in the government of President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the media reports, Philippe had to resign due to the economic crisis occurred from Corona virus in France. Experts had been speculating about reshuffling since mid-June, when French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he wanted to refashion his centrist government.
Macron is reshuffling the government to focus on restarting the economy after months of lockdown.
Castex, 55, is a career public servant who has worked with multiple governments. France’s gradual reopening plan has been seen as generally successful so far.
