BJP team to meet Jharkhand governor over death of freedom fighter’s kin
Ranchi June 28 (HS) A 10-member fact-finding team constituted by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following controversial death of 28 year old Rameshwar Murmu, sixth descendant of freedom fighter Sidho Kanho in Bhognadih in Sahibganj’s Barhait earlier this month, will meet Jharkhand governor Droupadi Murmu to press for their demand of a CBI inquiry.
On June 12, Murmu was found dead, and police had later termed it as a fallout of a clash over liquor. BJP, however, dubbed it as murder accusing Hemant Soren government of failing to curb lawlessness in the state. Barhait is Soren’s constituency and BJP further accused that the government was trying to cover up for the murder.
Earlier this week, a 10 member delegation had gone to the village to meet the deceased’s family members as part of their fact finding mission. Ashok Baraik, BJP’s vice president of ST Morcha said, “The entire incident has been painted as a petty issue by the government but the fact is a descendant of our icon and freedom fighter gets murdered and no one cares. There seems to be more than what meets the eye. Hence, we will meet the governor to press for our demands.”
