Ranchi, 26 June (HS) Marking Birsa Agricultural University’s (BAU) 40 years of foundation, Vice Chancellor Abu Bakar Siddique,  on Friday said that teachers played  important role in nation building. As people respect them, their conduct, behaviour, thinking and lifestyle should be such that they young generation emulates them.

Addressing the gatheirng while maintaining social distancing and following other prescribed norms , he said in 40 years the university had made praiseworthy contribution in teaching, research and education. However, a lot remained to be done for improving this condition of farming and farmers of Jharkhand, he added.
Director Students’ Welfare DK Shahi outlined the contribution of former union minister late Karthik Oraon in establishing BAU. Registrar Narendra Kudada said about three-fourth sanctioned posts of faculty members in the university were lying vacant since long due to which the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) and other regulating bodies had warned them of de-recognising several courses being offered by BAU.
Later, a webinar on ‘Effect of Covid-19 on Indian agriculture’ was organised. MS Yadav, dean, Faculty of Agriculture spoke on ‘How to rebuild Indian agriculture in the wake of Covid-19’ while MH Siddiqui, dean, Faculty of Forestry dwelt on ‘Impact of Covid-19 on forest management’. Sushil Prasad, dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences outlined the ‘Impact of Covid-19 on livestock and poultry sector’ while DK Shahi, made his presentation on ‘Challenges and opportunities arising out in Indian agriculture as a result of the pandemic’.
RS Kureel, director Extension Education and A Wadood, chairman, Department of Environmental Science detailed the impact of lockdown on environment.
