Luka Romero becomes the youngest player to play in La Liga
New Delhi, June 25, (HS) Real Mallorca’s Luka Romero made history by becoming the youngest player to play in La Liga on Wednesday. He was 15 years and 219 days old when he took to the field against Real Madrid in the 83rd minute. However, his team lost the match with 2–0.
The record was in the name of Francisco Bao Rodriguez for 81 years, also known as Senson. Rodriguez, who played for Celta Vigo set the record at 15 years and 255 days against Sevilla on December 31, 1939.
Romero sat on the bench as a substitute player for the last three matches, right after the league started after three months due to Corona virus.
Romero was born in Mexico, but has also represented Argentina at youth level. He was associated with the Mallorca Academy since the age of 10.
Romero’s father Diego Romero was also an Argentina lower-league football player.
