New Executive Committee of BJP in Bengal
Kolkata, 1 June (HS) : In a major political development, BJP in West Bengal today announced the formation of a new 35-member State Executive Committee and policy making body under the leadership of state party President Dilip Ghosh.
With only about a year remaining for the 294 member state Assembly elections in West Bengal, slated for 2021,the announcement of the new senior office-bearers of the party by Ghosh himself this evening has assumed a special significance because of the exclusion of some senior members of the party from the Committee, including Rajya Sabha MP Rupa Ganguly on the one hand from the team, and surprise inclusion of some new faces who had joined the party recently from the ruling Trinamool Congress. Among them is Sabyasachi Dutta, former TMC MLA, as one of the 10 state Secretaries.
Announcing the names of the new office-bearers most of whom are seasoned politicians and had vastly contributed in turning BJP into the largest opposition outfit in West Bengal, with as many as 18 Lok Sabha MPs and five MLAs, Ghosh said his selection as the state Party President was ‘unanimous’ for another term.
Claiming that the names of all 34 other members of the Executive Committee were also picked following their unanimous choice, Ghosh said among the 12 Vice-Presidents of the party in the state were Subhas Sarkar, MP, Biswapriya Roychodhury, Pratap Banerjee, Ritesh Tiwari, Arjun Singh, MP, Jayprakash Mazumdar and former Superintendent of Police of Jhargram Bharati Ghosh, a former close aide of Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who joined BJP in 2018.
Among the new five member General Secretaries were Sayantan Basu, Locket Chatterjee, MP, Jyotirmoy Mahato and Sanjay Singh, MLA.
Apart from Sabyasachi Dutta, the other state Secretaries of BJP were Tushar Mukherjee, Dipanjan Guha, Falguni Patra, Tanuja Chakraborty, Sanghamirta Chowdhury , Sarbari Mukherjee and Tushar Ghosh.
While top international fashion designer Agnimitra Paul has become the new Chief of BJP Mahila(Women) Morcha in place of Locket Chatterjee who used to head the organisation till early today, the BJP Youth Wing would now be headed by Soumitra Khan, an MP from Bankura,
Finally, Mahadfeb Sarkar was selected to head the party’s Kishan Morcha and Khagen Murmu, also an MP for the ST Morcha, while Ali Hossain would head the Minorirty Cell of the state party, Dilip Ghosh announced.
This would give a further boost to the party’s all out attempts to replace the 10 years rule of Mamata Banerjee (TMC) in West Bengal next year, Ghosh said with confidence.
