New Delhi,14 May(HS): Indian cricket team opener Shikhar Dhawan said that he wanted to be an influential player for the Indian team. He also said that he wanted to be fully prepared for the T20 World Cup to be held later this year.
The T20 World Cup is to be played in Australia in October-November this year. However, due to the coronavirus epidemic, the tournament can be postponed like other big sports tournaments.
Dhawan was talking live on Instagram with former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan. When Pathan asked him questions about the preparations for the T20 World Cup, Dhawan said, “I am preparing for the T20 World Cup and I am working on my fitness.”
He said, “Although the selection of the team is not in my hands, I have been battling with injuries for the past year. But now I am ready to give my team a good start. I want to play for the team.”
“KL Rahul is playing well. He is at a different level right now. I am always the same, I know that whenever we play the ICC tournament, my performance increases,” added the left-hander.
Dhawan last played an ODI for India in January this year. After that, he got injured. As a result, he was dropped from the series against New Zealand.
Shikhar Dhawan later said that, after playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad for 8 years, it was a big challenge for him to play for Delhi Capitals, but he saw the opportunity that he has to perform for the new team.
Dhawan played a total of 16 matches under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2019, scoring 521 runs at an average of 33.42.
