Kolkata,11 May (HS):  Even as more and more people across the globe including in India are falling prey to deadly effects of Corona virus creating havoc to the future of mankind as a whole, a city based  padiatrician has found certain ways to protect  children from the killer disease as they are much less susceptible by all yardsticks.

According to Sibnath Gayen,a renowned Child Specialist and Associate Professor at R.G. kar Medical College and Hospital here, COVID-19 was surfaced in China during last winter when most of the school going children in that country were already in some sort of home quarantine after finishing their school emaniation. As such their risk of  getting infected was substantially reduced without any active participation of anyone.

Moreover, he said, an unknown virus like Corona always required to be attached with a receptor callecd ACE2 to enter the  human cells in the body, and  it was found through intensive Research that Corona virus did never feel comfortable inside the body of a child ‘because they have very few such receptors on the cells of children’.

As such the subsequent processes of virus infection could no longer be accelerated inside their body like they did among the older people and the patients of  some other diaseases, Dr Gayen said.

Though there was no actual proof to such beliefs, it seemed that as most of the children  in almost every country  also suffered from virus infections almost throughout the year, it could be one of the reasons that the infection of Corona virus failed to become super active among the children, Dr Gayen said.

Referring to his studies and research of the  new virus he said  even if a child came in contact with an infected person  and was within 1 meter of him for more than 15 minutes, there might be chances that he could also be somewhat affected and could develop the early signs of Covid-19, Dr Gayen stated further  and suggested his immediate hospitalisation or at least home quarantine for the next two weeks as per the guidelines of the World Health Organisation(WHO).

Unlike the adults, he or she must also must not also be served any new food, he said and added that though  non vegetarian  food could be served to  these children of the age of upto 12 years along wth some seasonal fruits during the quarantine period, he must not be given any vitamins separately during the isolation.

However, considering their tender age the mother could stay with an infected child but she must take all types of  precautions and protection all the time besides remaining in touch round the clock with doctors.Dr Gayen suggested  that it help prevent further spread of the disease among others at this difficult times.
