Kolkata,09 May(HS): With 9 more Covid-19 fatalities being recorded during the last 24 hours in West Bengal, the total number of those died of Coronavirus in the state increased to 88 today from 79 till yesterday.
However, the number of those who also lost their lives in the state till now because of various other comorbidities remained stagnant at 72.
As such the overall death figure has now gone up to 160 (88 plus 72) according to the latest medical bulletin.
During the same period, the total number of those affected has gone up by a record number of 130 in one day to take their total number to 1,678 from1,548 yesterday with the number of active patients also simultaneously going up to 1.195 from 1.101 during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, since yesterday altogether 27 Corona positive patients were discharged from different hospitals and returned home, the Medical bulletin said adding with them so far a total of 323 people have returned home after fully recovering from the disease.
Informing that of the total 9 deaths since yesterday, as many as 8 were from the city alone, while the other person, a 55-year-old lady, died in a Covid – 19 hospital in Howrah.
Altogether 63 of the total 130 people newly affected by Covid 19 were from different parts of Kolkata. But, following certain improvement in some areas, the number of Containment zone had been reduced from 334 to 321.
Among others  38 patients were affected in Howrah district followed by 12 in North 24 Parganas, East Midnapore six, Hooghly and West Midnapore five each, South 24 Parganas four and East Burdwan, Nadia districts two each, the bulletin said.
Moreover, after ramping up the testing efforts of suspected and asymptomatic patients, as many as 3,015 sample testing was conducted since yesterday taking their total number to 35,767 so far.
The number of people now being treated at various  Government Quarantine facilities was 4,964, the bulleting said adding another 9576 suspected patients were sent to home Quarantine.
Expressing concern at the growing number of Corona positive patients among the frontline workers including those from the Police Force and other security forces including the BSF and CISF besides the doctors and nurses, the Bulletin said in a sudden surge as many as 4 police personnel tested positive since yesterday.
In addition, five doctors and four nurses in different hospitals in Kolkata and Howarah also tested positive and were admitted to hospitals. As a result, altogether 29 Medical staff had since been sent to self-quarantine providing yet another massive blow to the overall fight against the killer disease, the bulletin said because of considerable shortages in their number.
