FIR against BJP MP for violating locked down
Alipurduar(North Bengal)/Kolkata,15 April(HS): The Alipurduar distirct police today filed an FIR against local BJP MP John Barla changing him with violating the lockdown norms and encouraging public gathering in the name of distribution of relief among the local people.
According to reports reaching here this afternoon,Barla who left his house at Alipurduar town along with a small number of his party workers to distribute food and other relief materials among the local poor and needy at Banarhat and Laxmipur tea estates in his constituency,they were stopped by the police midway and prevened from distributing relief materials.They also forced him to return home.
Later a strong police camp was posted in front of his house who once again stopped the MP when he again tried to leave the house to distribute food among the poor.
‘You cannot leave the house violating the lockdown rules’, the police reportedly said and also stopped other party workers from distributing the relief,the reports said.
‘I have informed Union Home Minister about the whole situation and sought his immediate intervention’ , Barla said after an FIR was lodged at the Birpara police station in Alipurduar district against him.
Meanwhile according to Amitabha Maity, Alipurduar Superintendent of Police the FIR was lodged against the BJP member of Pariliamet on charge of repeatedly violating the lockdown norms.
He however, denied the allegation that opposition party workers were being prevented from distributing food and other relief materials to the poor and needy.
