New Delhi,13 April(HS): Gautam Gambhir, former India opener and sitting BJP Lok Sabha MP believes that if the Indian Premier League season does not happen this year, it is almost impossible for Mahindra Singh Dhoni to return to the Indian national cricket team.
Dhoni last played an international match for the Indian team in July last year. Whereas, the team was defeated against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-finals and Dhoni had to listen to a lot of trouble for his slow innings.
It was believed that this year Dhoni will return to the IPL and knock on the doors of the Indian team once again, but due to the coronavirus epidemic, this league has now been postponed.
Speaking on a TV show, Gambhir said, “If IPL does not happen this year, it will be very difficult for Dhoni to be selected in the team.”
Gambhir has considered KL Rahul as the right choice in the Indian team in place of Dhoni.
“KL Rahul’s wicket-keeping is not as good as Dhoni, but he is a useful batsman in T20 cricket. Along with wicketkeeping, he can bat at number three and four,” he said.
Gambhir said, “As far as Dhoni’s retirement is concerned, it is his personal decision.”
Prior to Gambhir, former Indian captain Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Akash Chopra and many other legendary players have agreed that it is very difficult for Dhoni to return to the Indian team.
