Kolkata,03 April(HS): Amid huge confusion about the death toll due to COVID-19 in West Bengal, one more person lost his life, possibly because of the killer disease, in the state during the last 24 hours taking the toll to 7 so far.
Though state Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha echoing Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, claimed here yesterday that only 3 people had so far died of Coronavirus in the state and not six as reported earlier, head of the state government’s Expert Committee on COVID -19, Avijit Chowdhury said with one more person succumbing during the last 12 hours in the city, altogether 7 people had so far lost their lives because of COVID-19, causing huge confusion about the actual figure and the reason behind such an undesired confusion.
Coming down heavily on the state authorities and the Chief minister and blamed them for allegedly creating the confusion ‘deliberately’ and hide the actual figure of death, BJP  state President Dilip Ghosh, MP, senior CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty, Congress leader Abdul Mannan and several other Opposition leaders questioned the ‘real intention’ of the state government in allegedly suppressing the figures.
‘We knew similar attempts were made during the last year’s Dengue epidemic when desperate attempts were made to suppress the actual death figures’, all these leaders said in unison and ridiculed the government for the alleged similar attempts this time too.
‘In this critical juncture of a national emergency when we should all work shoulder to shoulder and assist one another to intensify our fight against Coronavirus, the Chief Minister and her team of officials have been trying to suppress the actual figures. It is not only very unfortunate but also an offence in the realm of law ‘, they said and urged the government to speak the truth and disclose the actual figures.
Meanwhile, a total of 39 people have so far been tested positive of COVID-19 in the state and admitted to different hospitals.
However, three people including a 25-year-old woman, who earlier tested positive and remained in isolation for two weeks, have now tested negative and returned home yesterday.
