COVID-19 claims third victim in Bengal
Howrah/Kolkata, 31 March (HS): With the death of a 48 year old woman in Howrah General Hospital here last night, the total number of casualties due to COVID -19 in West Bengal has now gone up to three. Besides, 25 others who were tested positive of corona virus are being treated in the hospital.
The officials informed Hindusthan Samachar here today that the woman who was first admitted to the General ward of the hospital with symptoms of Corona virus last week was later shifted to the isolation ward after she was tested positive. Despite all efforts, she breathed her last yesterday.
Besides, a 59-year-old, resident of Dum Dum in North Kolkata, was the first victim of Corona virus in the state on March 23. In addition, a 45-year-old woman from Kalimpong who recently returned from Chennai, died of the same disease in North Bengal District Hospital in Siliguri yesterday.
Three more people including a lady in the Tollygunge area in South Kolkata tested positive of COVID-19 to take their total number to 25 so far.
They all are now being treated in isolation wards of various hospitals as per the strict guidelines of the Union Health ministry, officials said.
Meanwhile, after the death of the woman last night, panic gripped the hospital and it was immediately locked by the administration to prevent the spread of the disease.
All doctors, nurses and other health personnel who came in contact with the deceased were forced to go in quarantine and tests were conducted for each of them to ensure whether they were also carrying the deadly virus. The entire hospital complex was also fully sanitised, the sources added.
In the meantime, the condition of the 66 year old, resident of Nayabad, who has been affected by COVID-19 and was being treated in a Private hospital here, remained very critical for the third day today with the doctors making all out attempts to revive his condition, official sources said adding that in a ray of hope at least three people were released from different hospitals today after they recovered from the killer disease .
