New Delhi, March 19 (HS): Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer praised former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, saying that Dhoni is an asset to the Indian team and it will be difficult to ignore him.
He said that Dhoni’s presence behind the wickets will also reduce the pressure from KL Rahul.
Jaffer tweeted, “If Dhoni is fit and in form then I think we cannot play without him as he will be an asset behind the wickets and in the lower order.” This will take the pressure off KL Rahul and if India needs it, he can feed Pant as a batsman.
Dhoni last played in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals for India. This year, Dhoni has not found a place in the BCCI’s annual contract list of players.
The BCCI released the list of centrally signed players for the period from October 2019 to September 2020.
At the same time, Wasim Jaffer retired from all forms of cricket on 7 March. Jaffer scored 1944 runs in his 31 Tests for India at an average of 34.11 with the help of five centuries and 11 half-centuries. He is one of the Indian batsmen to score a century in the West Indies. He played a brilliant innings of 212 runs against the Windies team in St. Lucia.
