Australian Associated Press closed after 85 years.
Canberra, Mar 03 (HS): The national news agency Australian Associated Press (AAP) said on Tuesday that it was going to be closed after 85 years. It said that subscribers were decreasing and news content was being distributed free on digital platforms.
AAP Editor-in-Chief Tony Gillis tweeted, “Sad day, AAP closed after 85 years of excellence in journalism. I will miss this family.”
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bruce Davidson said it would stop operating until the end of June. AAP’s Pagemaster Editorial Production Service will also be closed by the end of August.
It is notable that the AAP employs over 170 journalists who work in bureaus in all states and territories in Australia. He also has correspondents in New Zealand, London, Los Angeles and uses a network of contributors from the US, Asia and Africa. AAP’s domestic news coverage is complete with a coalition of international news agencies. It was started in 1935 by Keith Murdoch, a news publisher who is the father of News Corp founder Rupert Murdoch.
