Sultan Azlan Shah Cup tournament postponed due to Coronavirus threat
New Delhi, March 2 (HS): The prestigious Sultan Azlan Shah Cup tournament is postponed from April to September due to Coronavirus outbreak across the globe. The 29th addition of this tournament was scheduled to be held on April 11 to 18, will now be held on September 24 to October 3, said the organizers in a statement. However, India, the previous runner-up of this tournament was not supposed to participate this year.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Dato’ Haji Abd Rahim Bin Md said in a statement, “it is in the best interest of the players, officials and all parties involved that the 29th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Men’s Hockey Tournament 2020 to be postponed.”
The decision has been conveyed to International Hockey Federation (FIH), Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC).
After many tournaments got postponed, Azlan Shah is the latest tournament to be suffered from the Coronavirus outbreak, which claimed more than 3000 deaths and affected more than 80000 people across the world.
