New Delhi, March 01 (HS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit out at Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for opposing the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Law (CAA) saying the Mamata Didi was against dalits who were being tortured in Muslim majority countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

While addressing a public rally in Kolkata on Sunday, Amit Shah said, “Mamata didi raised the issue of citizenship to refugees herself when she was in the opposition. How have the Dalits wronged you in any way? Why are you protesting when we want to give citizenship to persecuted minorities, dalits? “

“I want to tell all the minorities that the Citizenship Amendment Act will in no way take away your rights. Mamata can think whatever she wants. I am saying, we will provide citizenship to everyone. People are being told that you will have to produce documents. BJP will provide citizenship to everyone, the chief minister cannot stop us,” Amit Shah said.

Amit Shah lambasted Mamata government in Bengal saying that under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the state was lagging behind in terms of development.

“You cannot have ‘sonar Bangla’ under Mamata’s watch. If you want to take Bengal on the path of development, you will have to fight against the injustice in Bengal. We won’t allow dynasty rule in Bengal. Mamata says ‘Didi Ke Bolo’. The people should tell her that they will not put up with any injustice any more,” Amit Shah said in Kolkata.

On the Ram Mandir and abrogation of article 370 from J&K, Amit Shah said, “You tell me, shouldn’t Article 370 have been removed? Mamata Banerjee had protested against the move in Parliament. Our Prime Minister has removed all obstructions for Ram Temple.”

Early in the day, as Amit Shah reached Kolkata airport today, the protesters from opposition parties shouted slogans of ‘Go Back’ at the airport.

The people from opposition parties in the state staged protest after CPM leader Mohammad Salim has called upon the people of the state to protest against Shah’s visit. In his message to the party people, he asked youth and students to come in maximum number to oppose the CAA law and the visit of Amit Shah in the state of West Bengal.

“The youth and students’ wings of our party will hit the streets on March 1 to protest against the arrival of the Union home minister here. All democratic people should also join this protest,” Mohammad Salim said.

Shah today inaugurated a new building of National Security Guards at Rajarhat early this day.

This was Shah’s second visit to West Bengal after assuming office as Union Home Minister. People in huge strength from districts across Bengal began pouring into the city since Saturday night to attend the ‘Abhinandan’ rally.
