Spl. Commissioner SN Shrivastava given charge of Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi, Feb 28 (HS): S N Shrivastava who was appointed as Special Commissioner (Law and Order) just three days ago, has been given additional charge of the post of Delhi Police Commissioner on Friday in the wake of the riots across North-East Delhi. He will succeed Amulya Patnaik who demits office on Saturday. The riots has so far claimed 42 lives.

Delhi police has set up two Special Investigation Teams (SIT) of the Crime Branch to investigate cases of arson and violence that took place in Delhi since Sunday.

As of now, the police have registered 48 FIRs and more than 500 people have been detained or arrested in the case. Around 7,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and calm in the riot affected North-East Delhi.

Police reports said that as many as 82 persons sustained gunshot wounds during the violence and maximum of those were admitted to the GTB Hospital.

The Aam Admi Party councillor Tahir Hussain has been booked in connection with the killing of an Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma whose body was pulled out of a drain on Wednesday. Ankit was stabbed several times by the rioters and his eyes and intestines were also removed. Ankits body was dumped into a nearby nallah.
