Google Doodle honors Sir John Tenniel on his 200th birth anniversary
New Delhi, Feb 28 (HS): Google has recalled Sir John Tenniel’s 200th birth anniversary by creating his Google Doodle. Sir John Tennille was born on 28 February 1820 in London. He is remembered for his cartoons on political subjects.
He specialized in painting and satirical arts. This was the reason that he was awarded the title of ‘Knighthood’ in the year 1893. Tenniel was born to John Baptiste Tenniel, a swordsman of the Huguenot dynasty.
The talent of Sir John Tenniel was reflected from a young age. studied in the Royal Academy Schools. One of his paintings was included in the Society of British Artists. It was an oil painting made by Sir John Tennille at the age of 16. This was his first picture. This picture was highly praised.
He had an accident at the age of 20, in which he lost one eye, yet he continued to make paintings. He then made a 16-foot cartoon for a design competition organized for the decoration of the walls of the new Palace of Westminster. This cartoon was discussed in the political corridor and he received the honored amount of 100 Euro for it.
He was also served as the chief political cartoonist of Punch magazine. Sir John also made a lot of cartoons for the author Lewis Carroll’s book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Sir John Tenniel died on 25 February 1914 at the age of 94. People still remember his cartoons even after 100 years of his death.
