Bengal Governor plans to attend Calcutta University Convocation

Kolkata, 28 January (HS) : Massive security arrangements have been made in and around the venue of  today’s Convocation of century old Calcutta university here in view of Governor Jagdeep Dhankar’s decision to attend the function along with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee forgetting his past bitter experiences.
Informing this, sources at Raj  Bhavan informed Hindusthan Samachar here today that  following the formal invitation from the Registrar of the university, the Governor as Chancellor of the university had decided to attend the Convocation programme later this afternoon, where the Chief Minister is also likely to be present.
It may be recalled that  since the visit of the Governor to another prestigious university, Jadavpur University, couple of months ago had caused huge protests among a section of Left Wing students who blocked his entry into the university and shouted go back slogans against him, this time the police is taking no chance of any repeat of such an ugly incident and has taken every precautionary step to stop any type of demonstration in and around the venue of the convocation at Nazrul Manch in South Kolkata.
More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident before or during the convocation,a senior police official told.
