Election of female president for the first time in the history of Greece.

Athens, Jan 22 (HS): Greece’s parliament on Wednesday elected Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou as the first female president. The newly appointed President has a good understanding of the environment and the law. 261 members voted in favor of 63-year-old Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou.

 

The head of parliament, Costas Tassoulas, reported that 261 MPs voted in favor of 63-year-old Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou as President of Republican Greece. Kellapoulou is the daughter of a Supreme Court judge and has a bachelor’s degree from the Sorbonne University in Paris. She will take an oath on 13 March.

 

she will be the first head of the Council of State of Greece. She will be the President of Greece as well as the Commander in Chief which is a formal post. In Greece, the President approves governments and laws, She also has the power to declare war with the government. 64-year-old Kellapoulou (Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou) will also chair the top administrative court of Greece.

Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou will be the successor to Prokopis Pavlopoulos, whose five-year term ends in March. Ekaterini Kellapoulou, daughter of a Supreme Court judge, studied post-graduation from the Sorbonne University in Paris. She will be the first woman to chair the Council of State.
