Delhi Assembly election: BJP reworks strategy
New Delhi,January 20(HS) The BJP which had fought the recent Jharkhand election alone has reworked its strategy and may contest Delhi Assembly election with some of its old allies. The party may leave two or three seats for the Janata Dal (United) its coalition partner in Bihar.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar who was not in sync with the party on the CAA or proposed NRC is said to have come closer after announcement by former party president Amit Shah in Patna last week that party would fight Assembly election in Bihar later this year under his(Nitish’s) leadership.
The Lok Janshakti Party, another BJP ally in Bihar, may also join hands and contest Delhi election together. It was left out in Jharkhand.
The new strategy may work to the advantage of the BJP because nearly 40 per cent voters in Delhi hail from Bihar,Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. As a large number of them speak Bhojpuri dialect, icons like Dinesh Lal Yadav who is better known as Nirahua will be asked to campaign vigorously for the party.A noted Bhojpur film actor and singer,Dinesh, had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election against SP president Akhilesh Yadav last year.
Nitish who may be given at least two seats is likely to campaign to woo Bihari voters. They together with people hailing from eastern UP and Jharkhand will play a crucial role in deciding the fate of candidates in more than 20 out of total 70 constituencies.
The party has already offered eight seats to candidates belonging to the area out of 57 announced so far.It may offer two or three seats more out of the remaining 13 to them.
In the previous poll the party had not left many seats for them which could be one of the reasons for big success of the AAP. The party had bagged 67 seats, leaving only three for the BJP. The rest including the Congress had drawn a blank.
People from these states used to largely vote for the Congress in the past. Most of the leaders of this group has now shifted to the AAP. The party, therefore, had allotted 12 seats to candidates of this region.
It has promised to build more Chhat Ghats as Chhat (worshipping Sun god) is a popular Puja (prayer) in this region. Not to lag behind, the BJP has also promised to build Chhat Ghats along river Jamuna.
In the light of all this Delhi contest this year will be tougher for three major players, the BJP, the AAP and the Congress.Votes will be cast on February 8 and result declared on February 11.
