Washington/New Delhi, Jan 17 (HS): Five people have been charged in the US for running an international network that purchases American products for Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program.
Assistant Attorney General John Demers issued a statement saying that the accused smuggled American moose items for Pakistan’s nuclear programs, that have been designated for years as threats to US national security.
The Legal department of the US has said that all the five accused identified in this connection live outside America and the Jury hinted about these persons in last October. The officials said that these all accused have been running a company in the name of Business World in Rawalpindi.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Kamranwali (41), Mohammed Ahsaan Wali (48), Hazi Wali Mohammed Sheikh (82), Ashraf Khan Mohammed, Ahmed Wahid (52). Of these, Mohammed Kamranwali, Mohammed Ahsaan Wali and Hazi Wali Mohammed Sheikh are from Mississauga Ontario while Ashraf Khan Mohammed is from Hong Kong and Ahmed Wahid is from Ilford England.
These people are accused of conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Export Control Reform Act. Jason Mollina, the special agent for the Department of Homeland Security stated that they posed a potential threat to America’s national security interests and a delicate balance of power between regions.
According to the indictment, the five accused purchased American goods, between September 2014 and October 2019, without procuring an export license for the Advance Engineering Research Organization of Pakistan and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
