Lucknow, January 13 (HS):  The opposition meeting called by the Congress in Delhi on Monday to corner the BJP on the CAA and some other issues has been skipped by some major regional parties. However, while others have not tweeted reasons, BSP chief Mayawati has.

In a tweet, she has said that the party has not attended the meeting because the Congress which has called the meeting had engineered defection from the party. She has said the party had done it although the BSP was supporting the Congress government in Rajasthan. “Congress has caused defection in the BSP not once but twice. If we attend (despite all this) the workers of the party in Rajasthan will be demoralized”.She has also called the action a “betrayal”.
In another tweet, she has made it clear that the BSP was against the CAA and appeals to the government at the center to withdraw this “divisive and unconstitutional law”. In this tweet, she has not clarified but had previously stated that though it was opposed to the Act but did not approve the means adopted by other parties to achieve the goal.
In a democracy peaceful protest is okay but violence has no place in it. The party has always condemned arson and damage to government assets. It may be recalled that in UP alone more than 20 government vehicles were either fully burnt or badly damaged. Mayawati, in the tweet, has also called politicalisation of educational institutions like JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia “unfortunate”.
