Pratibha Patil becomes first Indian woman to receive ‘Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca’ award
New Delhi, June 02 (HS): Former President of India Pratibha Patil has been awarded with Mexico’s highest civilian award ‘Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca’ (Order of the Aztec Eagle).
Pratibha had served as the first woman president of India during 2007-12. She is the first Indian woman to receive such an award.
Earlier, Dr. Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II (2nd), Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, Bill Gates were honored with this award.
However, the ambassador of Mexico to India, Melba Pria, presented this highest civilian award for foreigners to Pratibha on Saturday at a special ceremony held at MCCIA Bhavan in Pune.
After receiving the award an elated Pratibha said that this award is the honor of my country. Both countries have the honor of friendship.
