TMC Core Committee reviews the party’s failure

Kolkata, May.31 (HS): As expected, a large number of Trinamool Congress ministers, District Presidents and others leaders were today lambasted and verbally roughed up by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for their ‘failure’ to ensure victory of party candidates in over 60 per cent of Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.
Convening an urgent core committee meeting of her party leaders at her South Kolkata residence here this afternoon to review the causes of defeat, so many party candidates including 18 in the hands of BJP,  mostly in North Bengal and Junglemahal areas, the Chief minister took strong exception to the alleged failure of several party leaders including all powerful TMC Birbhum District President Anubrata Mondal, her close confidant and state Sports and Youth Affairs minister Arup Biswas, who is also the party Observer in Darjeeling district, state Tourism Minister Gautam Deb, also the Chairman of North Bengal Development Council, Rabindranath Ghosh, North Bengal Development minister and party in charge of Coochbehar district and Binay Krishna Barman, the party candidate from Coochbehar among several others and wanted ‘reasonable explanations’ from them about the reasons for their failure to ensure comfortable win of party candidates in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Coochbehar and in Junglemahan areas of Jhargram, Midnapore and Purulia.
Also taking strong exception to the defeat of party candidate at Ranaghat, the Chief Minister held Anubrata Mondal, the party observer also for Nadia district, responsible for the loss and demanded an explanation from him. He was also removed from the post with immediate effect.
‘We must all analyse the causes of our defeat from the booth level’, she asked her party colleagues and wanted each of them to fight back to regain the  lost mandate from the people at any cost.
The Chief Minister also expressed utter surprise at the loss of party candidate Amar Singh Rai in Darjeeling and asked minister Arup Biswas the reasons for it in spite of allocating huge amount of money for all round development in the hills and for restoring peace and tranquility there.
In addition to his ministerial responsibilities Biswas was  given the charge of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts as party observers.
All senior party leaders and ministers including Finance minister Amit Mitra, Education minister Partha Chatterjee, City Mayor Firhat Hakim, Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee, Consumers Affairs minister Sadhan Pande among othes were present at the meeting.
