Northeast violence: Curfew lifted from Guwahati, Dibrugarh relaxed till 8 pm.
Guwahati , Dec 17 (HS): A large number of police forces have been deployed in several states of the Northeast. The curfew has been lifted from the capital Guwahati on Tuesday amid protests in the state since Wednesday over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Curfew has been relaxed in Dibrugarh from 06 am to 08 pm.
Assam Minister Hemant Biswarama has claimed that curfew will be completely lifted from every part of Assam from Tuesday. A curfew will not be imposed even at night. Broadband and internet connectivity services will be restored from tomorrow. The Assam government has decided to lift the curfew after the restoration of peace in the state. There was a protest in many places in Assam against the Citizenship Amendment Act, after which the administration had stopped internet services.
Things are looking completely normal in Guwahati. Government offices, petrol pumps, cooking gas agencies, post offices, etc. have been opened. However, the prices of goods are seen increasing significantly, as trains are not reaching the normal state from outside due to the stoppage of traffic. Due to this, gradually there is also information about the shortage of essential goods.
Police the administration is taking special precautions in sensitive areas to handle law and order. Central paramilitary forces have also been deployed in some areas. Due to the shutdown of mobile internet service from last Wednesday, people are facing a lot of trouble. The administration had announced to discontinue the mobile internet service till 7 pm on Tuesday evening. It is believed that even today the mobile internet service will not be restored.
