Kolkata, 16 December (HS): Ending all speculations, the West Bengal government today categorically denied initiating any step to build any Detention Camp in the state for detected infiltrators. In a statement issued from the state secretariat ‘Nabanna’ here this afternoon, the Government spokesman claimed as ‘totally false and baseless’ the recent reports appearing in a section of media here that the state government had recently identified land at Newtown and Bongaon areas for the proposed construction of at least two detention camps for infiltrators following their identified through NRC.
Following the publication of the report, both the CPI(M) and other Left Front constituents in Bengal criticized the state government and blamed them for their alleged double standard.
When on one hand they had been declaring publicly that there would be no NRC or CAA in Bengal, on the other they were preparing themselves to accommodate the alleged infiltrators from Bangladesh in detention camps, said CPI(M) General Secretary SuryaKata Mishra and his senior colleague in the state Committee and legislator Sujan Chakraborty while blaming the ruling Trinamool Congress for forging a ‘secret understanding with BJP’.
This view of the party leadership was also expressed during a protest rally of Left Front here this afternoon in Central Kolkata against the introduction of CAA and NRC when Chakraborty also sought a clear cut answer from the ruling party and the government. This possibly forced the state authorities to issue a categorical denial of the news report to wash off their hands from the issue which has now gripped the entire state.
