Bengal Governor expresses strong reservation about the absence of CS and DG
Kolkata, 16 December (HS): West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar today expressed his strong reservations about the state government’s alleged decision not to brief and update him despite he being the constitutional head of the state, about the ‘current painful situation in the state’.
In an extremely rare twitter message here this afternoon a shocked Governor said he was ‘stunned that in spite of request made neither Chief Secretary nor Director General of Police have come to brief and update him on the current painful situation in the State. This is surely not acceptable given the enormity of situation’.
It may be recalled that the Governor who is extremely perturbed at the ongoing situation in West Bengal which had been witnessing largescale violence and vandalism besides loss of huge government and railway property for the past five days in the name of unabated protest against the passage of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizenship(NRC),had called state Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha and Director General of Police Virendra at Raj Bhavan today to get a detailed picture of the ongoing situation and the proposed action of the state government to restore peace and calm.
But instead of waiting for more than two hours for both the top officials at Raj Bhavan when they did not turn up, the Governor expressed his frustration and tweeted his remarks.
Earlier the Governor also wondered how a Chief minister being the Executive Head of a state could use public money for her televised address to announce her opposition to Central acts like CAA and NRC, which she was constitutionally bound to implement. She must not do such things, he remarked and called for calm in the name of protests.
