Police in Bengaluru uncovered a chilling murder inside a rented house in Manjunath Nagar. Officers arrested three people for killing 40-year-old Mohan Rao. The accused include Urmila, also known as Bindu, Vinay and Dhanush Gowda.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) DL Nagesh confirmed the arrests. He said officers took all three into custody and continued questioning them. Investigators announced the arrests three days after they found Rao’s body inside the house, which falls under the Bagalagunte Police Station limits.

However, the crime surfaced nearly 12 days after the killing. Neighbours first sensed a strong foul smell from the locked house. They alerted the police. Officers then entered the premises and discovered the decomposed body. Forensic teams examined the scene and found multiple stab wounds on Rao’s body. They also noticed signs of suffocation. Police registered a murder case and launched a detailed probe.

Earlier, Rao and Bindu had rented the Manjunath Nagar house about two to three months ago. They told the landlord that they were a couple. However, they had not registered a legal marriage. Rao had separated from his wife and lived away from his family. Similarly, Bindu had parted ways with her husband. The two then began living together in the rented house.

Meanwhile, investigators found that Bindu grew close to Vinay, who works as a lorry driver. Over time, their friendship deepened. Soon, they decided to marry. However, police said Rao opposed the relationship. He allegedly insisted that Bindu continue living with him. According to investigators, this conflict triggered tensions inside the house.

As a result, Bindu and Vinay allegedly plotted to eliminate Rao. Police said they believed Rao stood in the way of their marriage plans. Therefore, they decided to remove him. They also involved Dhanush Gowda, who works at a non-vegetarian hotel and knew the couple.

On the night of the murder, the trio allegedly executed their plan. First, they offered alcohol to Rao inside the house. They ensured he drank heavily. Once he lost control due to intoxication, they attacked him. Investigators said they stabbed him several times with a knife. After that, they placed a plastic cover over his face and suffocated him.

Police said the murder took place in the same room where officers later found the body. After the killing, the accused allegedly locked the house and left. Days passed before neighbours detected the smell and informed authorities.

During the investigation, officers also looked into Rao’s background. He reportedly worked in pigmy collection and managed small business activities. Meanwhile, Bindu claimed that she had acted in minor roles in films such as Bhajarangi and Police Quarters. Police said they have not yet verified those claims.

At present, officers continue to interrogate the accused. They aim to reconstruct the sequence of events and gather further evidence. Investigators plan to file a detailed charge sheet after completing forensic analysis and witness statements.

The case has shocked residents of Manjunath Nagar. Police have assured strict action and speedy investigation as they move forward with the probe.
