A tragic road crash in Dwarka has triggered sharp observations from the Juvenile Justice Board. The case involves a 17-year-old boy who allegedly drove an SUV that rammed into a motorcycle and a taxi. The collision killed 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra and left the city shaken.

First, the Juvenile Justice Board reviewed the teenager’s conduct. The Board examined him on February 4, a day after the February 3 crash. During the interaction, members assessed his behavior and responses. The Board noted that he did not show remorse. It also recorded that he did not appear to understand the value of human life.

In its February 14 order, the Board stated that the child in conflict with law did not grasp the “preciousness of life.” Members said he showed no regret for his actions. Therefore, the Board sent him to an observation home. Authorities chose this step to ensure rehabilitation, counselling, safety, and security. The Board acted under the reformative framework of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues.

The crash occurred around 11:50 am near the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management in Sector 11, Dwarka. According to initial findings, the SUV hit Sahil’s Yamaha R15 motorcycle and then struck a Swift Dzire taxi. The impact left Sahil on the roadside with severe injuries. Bystanders gathered quickly at the scene.

Soon after, a new video surfaced on social media. The clip shows the aftermath of the accident. It captures a crowd confronting the accused and his sister. People appear to block them from leaving the spot. In the video, the sister claims that the biker drove at high speed. The footage also shows the damaged motorcycle and the stationary taxi. Police have started verifying the authenticity of the video. Investigators plan to examine it as part of the probe.

At the same time, the accused’s father has expressed remorse. Although the Board observed no visible regret from the teenager, his father publicly apologised to Sahil’s mother. He said he would abide by the judiciary’s decision. He also stated that he would seek forgiveness, even though he feels unable to undo the loss.

Furthermore, Delhi Police have registered a case against the father under the Motor Vehicles Act. Officers have held him responsible in connection with the incident. He said he was in Gorakhpur for work when he received a call about the crash on February 3. He returned to Delhi immediately and then met the police to understand the details.

In another development, the Board granted interim bail to the teenager on February 10. He studies in Class 10 and is currently appearing for board examinations. The Board considered his academic continuity while granting relief. It allowed him to stay with his father during the exam period. However, it imposed strict conditions.

The teenager must furnish a personal bond of ₹10,000 along with one surety of the same amount. The bail remains valid only until March 9. After completing his exams, he must surrender.

In his bail plea, the defence described him as a student with a strong academic record. The plea claimed the incident occurred accidentally and without intent to cause harm. It also stated that he remained at the scene, informed police, and cooperated with investigators.

Now, the case moves forward. Authorities continue their probe. The Board maintains its focus on accountability and reform. Meanwhile, a grieving family awaits justice.
