Delhi biker’s death sparks outrage as father demands accountability over open pit tragedy

The death of a young biker in Delhi has triggered public anger and renewed questions about civic safety. Twenty-five-year-old Kamal Dhyani lost his life after his motorcycle fell into an open pit in Janakpuri. The pit belonged to an ongoing Delhi Jal Board project. The incident took place late Thursday night while Kamal was returning home from work.

Soon after the tragedy, Kamal’s father, Naresh Dhyani, spoke out against the Delhi government. He expressed deep dissatisfaction. He said authorities often carry out temporary repairs. However, the same problems return after a few days. Therefore, he demanded permanent solutions. He stressed that such pits must not remain in the future. He also urged the government to take responsibility.

Meanwhile, the family recalled the painful hours after Kamal went missing. Naresh Dhyani said relatives and friends searched through the night. They looked in nearby parks and streets. However, they found no trace. Only in the morning did they learn that Kamal had fallen into the pit in darkness.

Similarly, Kamal’s brother described the night-long search. He said he kept calling his brother’s phone. Later, police informed the family about a body and a bike inside a pit. When he reached the spot and saw Kamal’s bag, he understood the truth. The family broke down.

At the same time, the family raised another concern. They said no political leader or senior official had met them. They claimed they had received no clear assurance. This lack of response added to their anger and grief.

Kamal’s death has also hit the family financially. He was the eldest son. He was the only earning member. His younger brother remains unemployed. Therefore, the tragedy has pushed the family into uncertainty.

Meanwhile, local residents highlighted serious safety lapses. They said the pit lacked proper barricades. Only a few barriers stood on one side. Warning signs remained missing. Earlier, no green safety sheets covered the area. In addition, poor lighting made the spot dangerous at night.

Residents said they pass through the area several times a day. They warned that anyone could meet the same fate. They blamed authorities for ignoring repeated risks.

According to friends, Kamal had spoken shortly before the accident. He said he was only 15 minutes away from home. He had left his office in Rohini to celebrate his parents’ wedding anniversary. However, he never reached his destination.

When Kamal failed to return, police joined the search. Teams checked CCTV footage. They tracked mobile tower signals. Still, they found no clue for several hours. Finally, around 8 am on Friday, a woman alerted police about a body in a pit.

Officers rushed to the site. They found Kamal’s body inside a nearly 15-foot-deep pit. His motorcycle lay nearby in a damaged condition.

Residents accused the Delhi Jal Board of negligence. They said officials left the pit uncovered and poorly marked. They warned that such practices put commuters at constant risk.

The Delhi Police denied allegations of inaction. They said officers stayed with the family and worked throughout the night.

Meanwhile, Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma called the death tragic. He announced strict action. He promised suspensions and a detailed inquiry.
