New Delhi – A Class 10 student’s death shook the Capital on Tuesday after the 16-year-old jumped from a West Delhi metro station. He left a handwritten note accusing his teachers and headmistress of harassment. The boy studied in a well-known central Delhi school and, according to his family, struggled with mental distress for months.

Authorities moved fast. Police filed a case against the school staff under sections 107 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The school suspended three teachers and the headmistress. Meanwhile, the Delhi government formed a five-member inquiry panel led by joint director Harshit Jain. The committee will submit its findings within three days.

Background and Key Developments
The case revealed five disturbing details. First, the boy faced sustained harassment, according to his family and close friends. They say he showed clear distress signs but the school ignored them. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from both the school and the metro station. They have also questioned several students and plan to record more statements.

Second, the boy had expressed his suicidal thoughts to the school counsellor. His father said friends told him the boy confided in the counsellor earlier. The counsellor allegedly dismissed his concerns. The boy, however, never shared these thoughts with his parents.

Third, a classmate supported the claims in the boy’s note. The student said teachers bullied the victim regularly. He added that he and other friends had planned to file a formal complaint with the headmistress soon. The classmate said threats of expulsion had become routine for the victim.

Fourth, students reported a pattern of strict and unreasonable behaviour by teachers. They said staff often summoned parents over trivial issues. One student said teachers scolded students harshly and used abusive language in class. The victim’s father confirmed the school called him three months earlier over a minor complaint that his son talked during lessons.

Fifth, CCTV footage revealed the boy’s final moments. His uncle said the footage showed the boy placed his bag on the platform, walked calmly for a few minutes, and even guided a woman waiting nearby. Moments later, he spoke briefly to a guard. As soon as the guard looked away, the boy jumped.

Broader Context
This incident comes at a time when concerns over student mental health are rising nationwide. Parents and experts repeatedly warn schools to recognise early symptoms, reduce pressure, and address bullying with seriousness. Yet lapses continue.

The Delhi government has reaffirmed that the inquiry committee will assess accountability and suggest reforms. Officials say they intend to focus on counselling systems, teacher conduct, and school-level grievance mechanisms.

The victim’s family now demands strict action. They say their son tried to seek help but received neglect instead. They hope the investigation brings clarity and prevents similar tragedies in other schools.

The case has sparked strong public debate. Many parents have urged authorities to create safer school environments and ensure students feel heard.

The probe continues, and investigators plan to question more students and staff members in the coming days.
