Huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered from South 24 Parganas village
Canning(South 24 Parganas) /Kolkata, 26 July, (HS): In a major success in recent times,the South 24 Parganas district police today unearthed a sophisticated country made gun making factory and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from there at Sheikh para village under Canning Police station, about 120 km from Kolkata, and arrested one person.
Informing this police told Hindusthan Samachar here this afternoon that, acting on a tip off a special team from Canning police station and Baruipur Police Line raided the house cum gun making factory of one Abu Siddque Laskar early this morning and recovered as many 19 double barren guns,12 revolvers, six long range pipe guns and a few one shooter pistol along with nearly 50 rounds of cartridges from there.
A substantial quantity of gun making materials and several semi finished guns and pistols were also recovered from the illegal gun factory, they said.
Though initially, the accused Abu Laskar (49),who already served a five year term in jail for similar charges and has recently been released, tried to flee, he was caught by the plainclothes policemen and immediately arrested.
Soon he was taken to Canning police station and was interrogated by senior police officials to know more about his modus operandi, business associates and his probable customers, the police said adding that efforts were also being made to know whether any inter state arms gang was involved in the entire illegal arms business operation.
He is likely to be produced in court tomorrow after the initial investigation, the police said.
Incidentally, the recovery of such a large number of sophisticated arms and ammunition from a remote South 24 Parganas village is being considered as one of the major successes of the district police in recent times in controlling criminal activities in the district and elsewhere.
