Mukesh Bhatt opens up on not being invited to Alia Bhatt’s wedding, says he misses meeting Raha
Mumbai: Filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt has opened up about his emotional disappointment over not being invited to his niece Alia Bhatt’s wedding with Ranbir Kapoor. He also expressed his desire to meet their daughter, Raha, who recently turned three.
During an interview with Lehren Retro, Mukesh admitted that he felt left out during one of the most important family moments. He said, “I will be a hypocrite if I say I didn’t feel bad. Of course, I felt bad. I love Alia a lot, and not just her, even Shaheen. When she got married, I felt like my daughter was getting married. I really wanted to be there.”
Mukesh revealed that he hasn’t met Alia and Ranbir’s daughter yet. “When I heard Alia was pregnant and then had a baby, my eyes yearned to see Raha. I love kids a lot,” he said with emotion.
When asked if he had tried to reach out to Alia after the baby’s birth, Mukesh explained that he chose not to. “I didn’t even try because I didn’t want to put her in a position of discomfort. I didn’t want her to feel awkward about how her father would react if I came to meet her.”
He mentioned that although he didn’t contact Alia personally, he sent his heartfelt blessings. “I gave her my best wishes from the heart,” he added.
Rift Between Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt
Speculation about tension between the Bhatt brothers has existed for years. In 2021, Mukesh announced that Vishesh Films — the banner behind hit movies like Aashiqui, Sadak, Gangster, Raaz, and Murder — would now be managed by his children, Sakshi and Vishesh Bhatt.
At that time, Mukesh clarified that Vishesh Films had always been his company, with Mahesh Bhatt serving as a consultant. However, after the announcement, reports suggested a growing rift between the two brothers, though neither publicly confirmed the reason behind it.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s Marriage
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor got married in April 2022 after years of dating. Their intimate ceremony took place at Ranbir’s Bandra home, attended by close family and friends. Later that year, in November 2022, the couple welcomed their daughter, Raha.
The couple first revealed Raha to the public during Christmas celebrations in 2023, when they posed with her for photographers. However, Alia later deleted Raha’s photos from her social media accounts, preferring to keep her away from the public eye.
Mukesh Bhatt, despite the family distance, continues to express affection toward his niece and her family. His remarks reveal both emotional pain and deep love — a reminder that family ties, even strained, often endure beneath the surface.
