‘Kaantha’ Trailer out: Dulquer Salmaan shines, fans declare a Blockbuster in making
Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati’s ambitious period thriller ‘Kaantha’ brings ego, power, and cinema into sharp focus. The much-awaited trailer of Kaantha, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, released on Tuesday evening, igniting strong buzz across social media.
Set in 1950s Madras, the film stars Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, and Bhagyashri Borse in lead roles. Kaantha comes from Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, jointly backed by Dulquer and Rana Daggubati.
Soon after the trailer launch, Dulquer shared it on X (formerly Twitter) in both Tamil and Telugu, writing, “The world of Kaantha unfolds today!” His post instantly went viral as fans praised his intense screen presence and the film’s gripping visuals.
The trailer unfolds a dramatic ego clash between Chandran, a superstar played by Dulquer, and Ayya, the director who built his fame, portrayed by Samuthirakani. Chandran, titled the “King of Acting,” begins to rebel against his mentor’s creative authority. Their relationship turns toxic as ego overtakes gratitude. The film quickly shifts into a psychological thriller when Chandran tries to control his destiny, refusing to bow to anyone.
“Kaantha” dives deep into the mentor-protégé conflict that defines much of the film industry’s power struggle. It shows how ambition and pride can destroy creative partnerships. The story also exposes how fame can blur lines between respect and rivalry.
Earlier teasers hinted at this tension, showing Chandran renaming his mentor’s female-led film Shaantha to Kaantha, sparking outrage. The trailer confirms that the tension leads to an intense confrontation—emotional and physical.
Director Selvamani Selvaraj, known for Nila, brings a striking visual tone to the period drama. Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez, who earlier worked on Mahanati (2018), teams up again with Dulquer to create vivid, nostalgic frames of old Madras. Composer Jhanu Chanthar adds emotional depth through songs like Panimalare, Kanmani Nee, and Rage of Kaantha, all of which are already charting online.
Announced in July 2023, Kaantha marks Dulquer’s reunion with Rana Daggubati after their successful production ventures. Both actors, now producers, see this film as a step forward in building pan-Indian stories rooted in regional heritage.
Originally slated for release on September 12, the film was delayed to November 14. The move allowed Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, another Dulquer production, to extend its record-breaking theatrical run. That film has already become the highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever, setting high expectations for Kaantha.
Trade analysts predict Kaantha will appeal to audiences across languages, with dubbed versions in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi releasing simultaneously. The storyline’s emotional intensity, coupled with powerful performances, positions it as one of the most awaited films of the year.
As excitement builds ahead of its theatrical debut, Kaantha promises to blend vintage charm with raw human emotion—offering a cinematic duel between art, ego, and fame that fans are already calling “a sure-shot blockbuster.”
