Patna: July 17 (HS): The Bihar government has ordered a probe into the controversial letter by the Special Branch of the police asking the force to gather information regarding the activities of RSS and its 18 offshoots.

The letter was sent by Superintendent of Police, Special Branch on May 28 last, directing all the Deputy SPs and district officials to gather information about the activities of the organisation listed in the letter and their office bearers.
Top police official G S Gangwar, who called a press conference to clarify the position, claimed that senior officials of police headquarters and home department were not aware about such a letter.
The letter signed by the SP was copied to ADG, IG and DIG of the Special Branch. Gangwar is himself holding the post of the ADG in Special Branch.
“How can hen feign ignorance about this letter when it was copied to him?” asked a BJP functionary on condition of anonymity. “The government is trying to save its face by putting blame on junior officials. But who will believe it?” he alleged.
Police sources said there was enough indication that action might be taken against the SP, who had signed the letter on May 28 last and had sought all the information within a week.
The official concerned  is currently undergoing training in the Police Academy, as reported by Gangwar. “The manner in which he ordered collecting information was wrong. Action can be taken after the proper investigation,” the senior official said.
