963 terrorists, 413 security personnel killed in J&K between 2014-2019: MHA

New Delhi, July. 16 (HS):  In the last five years, over 960 terrorists and 413 security personnel had been killed in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, said Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home, G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha.

The minister said that the security forces were taking proactive action against terrorists, pursuant to the Modi  Government’s  zero tolerance policy towards terrorism.
Nearly 400 terrorists had infiltrated into Jammu & Kashmir in the last three years while 126 of them had been killed by the security forces, said the state Home Affairs minister.
Reddy added that 27 security personnel were killed during the engagements with the infiltrators while four terrorists had been arrested till now.
“Due to the concerted and synergised efforts of security forces, 963 terrorists have been neutralised in the state of Jammu & Kashmir since 2014 till June 2019”. However, during these operations, 413 security personnel have also lost their lives, Reddy said while replying to a written question.
According to the Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA), the attempts of infiltration across the border are mainly in Jammu & Kashmir which had been affected by terrorist violence, sponsored and supported from across the border.
The net infiltration in J&K has reduced by 43 pc in the first half of the year over the corresponding period of 2018.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) released the actual figures on the floor of the Parliament  which shows that the net estimated infiltration incidents were 119 in 2016, 136 in 2017 and  143 in 2018.
The number of infiitrators killed was 35 in 2016, 59 in 2017 and 32 in 2018. While the number of infiltrators arrested was 3 in 2016 which had come down  to 1 in 2018.
The number of security forces personnel martyred during proactive engagement with infiltrators was 15 in 2016, 7 in 2017 and reduced to  5 in 2018 whereas the number of security forces personnel injured during proactive engagement with infiltrators was 37 in 2016, 11 in 2017 which had considerably decreased to merely one in 2018.
Reiterating the zero tolerance policy of Indian government  against terrorism, Reddy said the government of India had adopted a multi- approach to deal with cross-border infiltration which includes multi-tier fence deployment along the International Border (IB) / Line of Control (LoC), border fencing, improve intelligence and operational coordination, taking pro-active action against infiltrators and equipping the security forces with advanced weaponry system.
