Firms evading tax in Bihar identified
Patna, July 10 (HS): The commercial taxes department in Bihar has detected tax evasion by at least 24 firms which did business of Rs 840.92 crore without paying tax.
Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds finance portfolio, said the department was in process of filing FIR against those firms which mainly were engaged in the business of iron and steel, coal and readymade garments.
“These firms got themselves registered on basis of fake documents and were doing business through fake bills,” said Modi after a review meeting of the department on Wednesday.
However, Modi claimed that the commercial taxes department in 2018-19 recorded an increase of 26.17 percent in revenue collection as compared to previous fiscal of 2017-18. He tasked the officials to achieve target for the collection of Rs 29,000 crore in 2019-20.
This year more than 2.44 lack new dealers have been registered under GST and the officials have been directed to do spot verification of the dealers.The department has developed a mobile app named as GST Field Visit.
Modi also directed the officials to keep a close watch on the agencies running coaching institutions or engaged in real estate and construction.
