Cop suspended for taking bribe in Jammu
Jammu, July. 8(HS): A traffic policeman was suspended and an inquiry initiated against DTI after a video purportedly showed taking bribe from a driver to allow him a passage in sensitive Nagrota check post at Jammu on Sunday.
Additional Superintendent of Police, (Traffic) Jammu Prabh Dayal said “We have suspended traffic cop Bashir Ahmed for taking bribe while inquiry initiated against Jalal Din Fani (DTI) Nagrota for dereliction towards his legitimate duties.” The action against erring cops was taken after senior officials received video on social networking sites showing a traffic constable Bashir Ahmed caught on camera allegedly accepting bribe from unknown person at TCP, Nagrota.
“Inspector Jalal Din Fani (DTI) who is the Incharge of TCP, Nagrota failed to control subordinate cops deployed with him which speaks lack of supervision, carelessness and dereliction towards his legitimate duties,” the order of SSP, Traffic City Jammu reads. “This act is highly objectionable and amounts to misconduct, indiscipline, and misuse of official position for accepting illegal gratification on official duty. Such acts committed by cop have tarnished the image of J&K police in general and traffic police on particular,” the order reads.
The department have appointed DYSP, Traffic City North as inquiry officer and asked him to furnish the report within a week’s time. Pertinently, a traffic cop was suspended after the driver, from whom the bribe was allegedly sought, secretly shot a video footage, which late went viral, when he was stopped by traffic police personnel at 4th Tawi bridge in Jammu.
