5.28 lakh posts of policemen across the country are vacant

New Delhi, July. 8 (HS): There are 5.28 lakh vacant posts in the country, of which 1.29 lakh in UP, 50 thousand in Bihar and 49 thousand in West Bengal are vacant.
According to the data of the Home Ministry, in all the states, 23,79,728 posts are sanctioned in the police force out of which 18,51,332 posts have been filled up till January 1, 2018. Up to this date, 5,28,396 posts were vacant.
Officials have attributed the reasons for slow recruitment process, retirement and untimely death. According to the statistics, there are 4,14,492 posts in the police force in UP out of which 2,85,540 posts are filled while presently 1,28,952 are vacant.
Similarly, out of 1,28,286 sanctioned posts in Bihar, 77,995 posts are functional and 50,291 posts are vacant. In West Bengal, 1,40,904 posts are sanctioned and 48,981 posts are vacant. Nagaland is the only state where more personnel have been recruited than the sanctioned posts. There are 941 more workers in 21,292 sanctioned posts.
