Kolkata Police denies newspaper report on Durga Puja
Kolkata, July.05(HS): Kolkata Police today categorically denied a newspaper report stating that they had asked all Durga Puja Committees in the city not to organise puja in the middle of any road and erect their pandal there as it causes severe inconveniences to the people and motorists.
In a message issued on behalf of the Kolkata Police this afternoon on Social Media it was stated that ‘Some sections of media and persons with vested interest are creating confusion in connection with granting of Puja permission. Nothing new is being done this year.Permissions will be given on same conditions as in previous years’.
It may be recalled that some daily newspaper in the city today quoting senior Police officials, had reported that the city police at a high level meeting had decided to ask all Duga Puja committees in the city not to erect their pandal in the middle of any road as it would crease severe inconveniences to the common people and the motorists.If necessary the same Puja could be organised elsewhere in the locality without causing any inconvenience to anyone,the reports stated.
Of more than 1500 community Duga Pujas being held in the city every year, some of them including the most popular ones like those of Ekdalia Ever Green, Singhi Park, Ballygunge Cultural Association and Sanghasri are being held on main roads drawing huge crowd on all days of the puja.
