Kolkata, 2 July, (HS): Getting yet another relief from the possibility of being arrested by CBI, the former Commissioner of Police in Kolkata Rajeev Kumar was today granted a further extension of interim protection from arrest by Calcutta High Court till 22 July in connection with his alleged involvement in Saradha Chit Fund scam.
Delivering her order after the hearing  the lawyers of both Rajeev Kumar and CBI, the single judge Bench of Justice Asha Arora further extended the interim protecting of the former Police Commissioner for another three weeks till 22 July when further hearing of the case would be taken up.
Till that time Kumar could not be arrested by CBI though the Central Investigating Agency has been demanding for his custody for further questioning in connection with his alleged involvement in the Rs 30,000 odd crore scam.
It may be recalled that though, as directed by the Supreme Court, Rajeev Kumar was interrogated by CBI for several days at Shillong earlier this year. Though they(CBI) wanted to take him in their custody for further interrogation, they were denied following an appeal by Kumar to the Apex Court.
In his first interim protection from arrest,Kumar was given a week’s time by the Supreme Court which, following expiry, was again extended by Calcutta High Court for a few more days following another appeal for the same.
In the meantime though CBI summoned the former top cop for more questioning,  he avoided and did not turn up seeking further extension of his interim protection from arrest from the High Court, the hearing of which was dome today.
Now it remains to be seen how long Rajeev Kumar would be able to enjoy such interim protection from his arrest and what awaits him in future to determine his professional career.
