Mukul Roy gets relief from High Court, can enter Nadia now
Kolkata, July.02 (HS): The two member Division Bench of Calcutta High Court in a fresh direction today lifted the ban on senior BJP leader Mukul Roy preventing him from entering Nadia district in connection with his alleged involvement in the murder of Trinamool Congress MLA Satyajit Biswas earlier this year.
The Two member Division Bench comprising Justice Jaymalya Bagchi and Justice Manojit Mondal today heard the appeal of Mukul Roy seeking his entry in Nadia district which was prevented by the Court after his name came up in the Satyajit Biswas murder case which took place near his house at Krishnaganj in Nadia district on the eve of Saraswati Puja on 9 February .
Since Roy’s name did not appear in the charge sheet, there was no reason that he would be prevented from entering Nadia district any more, the Judges in their direction said to and allowed the BJP leader to visit his house and his family in the district as before.
It may be recalled that the young TMC legislator from Krishnaganj was shot dead from point blank range by an unidentified assailant near his house on 9 February night while he was watching a cultural programme organised in connection with the Saraswati Puja.
Though Biswas was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced brought dead.Though a number of people were arrested in this connection, none could be convicted so far for the crime.
Blaming BJP and Mukul Roy behind the murder, the ruling TMC also filed an FIR in his name in the local police station preventing him from entering Nadia district since then.
With a view to garnering popular support in favor of the slain leader, TMC supremo and Chief minister Mamata Banerjee made Satyajit Biswas’ wife Rupali as the party candidate from Ranaghat in the Lok Sabha elections but without any success as the party lost the seat to BJP.
