Tenure of NS Vishwanathan extended as Dy. Governor of RBI
New Delhi, July 1(HS): Before completing his tenure as deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 3rd of July, NS Vishwanathan has given extension of one more year on his position, according to official order of Personnel Ministry. This extension has been approved by Appointments Committee of Cabinet and will be effective from 4th July.
He succeeded H R Khan on 4th July, 2016 as Deputy Governor. He joined Reserve Bank of India in 1981. He has expertise in handling issues related to regulation and supervision of banks including NBFCs and cooperative banks, personnel management, foreign exchange and currency management. He has been looking after department of banking regulation for last three years.
It is noteworthy that there are three deputy governors working in central bank of India. Last month, one of them-Viral Acharya- resigned from his position six months before the official end of his tenure as Deputy Governor in RBI.
