J&K Cong delegation meets Rahul Gandhi, discuss assembly polls
New Delhi, July. 1 (HS): Amid the political crisis peaking within the Congress with Rahul Gandhi adamant on his stand for quitting as party chief, Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Monday met Gandhi along with a delegation of other state leaders at his residence in New Delhi and discussed the upcoming Assembly elections in the state which are due to take place this year end.
The delegation discussed the current scenario and the reasons behind the party’s defeat in winning a single seat in the state.
The leaders also insisted Rahul Gandhi to make the “necessary changes in the party as desired by him without any hesitation”.
Apart from Mir, Rajya Sabha (RS) member of Parliament (MP) from Punjab, Ambika Soni and few other Lok Sabha party candidates were present in the meeting.
This is the first meeting held between the state unit and the Congress President after the recent defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
It is noteworthy that yesterday, four senior youth Congress leaders from J&K including state Vice President Pankaj Basotra resigned from the party’s primary membership in Jammu blaming Ghulam Ahmed Mir for ignoring the party leaders working for the aspirations and development of Jammu region and focussing more attention on Kashmir.
