Mamata calls for total revamp of TMC in Midnapore, like elsewhere in Bengal
Kolkata, 28 June (HS) :Continuing her all out efforts to revamp the party after suffering a major debacle in the Lok Sabha elections and losing as many as 18 of the 42 seats to BJP,Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today directed the party legislators from Midnapore to leave no stone unturned to improve the ‘overall image of the Trinamool Congress in both the districts before the coming Assembly elections’.
Addressing her party legislators and all other leaders of both East and West Midnapore districts at the state party headquarters here this afternoon and review their performance both before and during the elections, the Chief minister who is also the TMC supremo, said the image of the party had received a serious dent in both the districts which was reflected in the poll results (of the party) and termed them as the result of continuous infighting among the district leadership over power struggle.
Recalling the performance of TMC since its birth way back in 1998,the Chief minister reminded the party leaders and other functionaries about their role and responsibilities both as a opposition party and as a ruling party since 2011 when the party came to power after overthrowing the 34 years Left Front rule, and regretted that for some unknown reasons TMC which was known as a party for the people and of the people, had lost its basic image to the common voters.
‘We must make every effort to regain the wholehearted support of the people’, she said and stressed the need for re launching a well coordinated ‘Jana Sanyog Yatra'(March to establish direct connection with people) at the block level to garner more support for the party across West Bengal.
Also speaking on the occasion state Transport minister and the party’s top leader in Midnapore districts Subhendu Adhikari without naming former Second in Command in TMC and now senior BJP leader Mukul Roy and former East Midnapore district Superintendent of Police and now a BJP leader Bharati Ghosh, regretted that the party had now been paying huge price for reposing faith on them for the success of TMC at one point of time and dependent on them. ‘We would not make similar mistakes twice’,he said and reiterated his commitment to make all out efforts to ensure a massive turnaround in the political fortune of TMC very soon.
Earlier, the Chief minister also severely criticised a number of middle level party leaders of both East and West Midnapore districts for their alleged involvement in corruption and for earning money for personal gains.’I am aware that a number of sand mafias had penetrated into the Party(TMC)thorough back doors and doing irreparable damage’,she said and warned them of stern action id they did not reverse their role.
However, interestingly, the recently appointed master political strategist Prashant Kishore was present in today’s meeting though he did not make any comment and watched the entire proceedings in association with the Chief minister’s nephew and Diamond Harbour MP Avishek Banerjee at the party headquarters here this afternoon.
